Pat McGeown,

Head of Midwifery & Business Manager
Pat McGeown is Head of the Midwifery and Business
Manager at the Perinatal Institute for maternal & child health
in Birmingham. Pat leads a team of midwives and co-ordinates projects
aimed at enhancing midwifery care and maternity service provision
across the region.
She qualified as a midwife in
1987 and practiced midwifery in a variety of roles in Coventry for

years. Prior to
her current appointment she was a Lecturer-Practitioner
with Coventry University. She has been
a Supervisor of Midwives since 1997 and maintains
links with both the university and maternity
unit in Coventry to continue her supervisory
and midwifery practice.
She is an active member of the Regional Heads
of Midwifery group and advises projects
that aim to address inequalities and adverse outcome.
She also chairs
a Regional Midwifery Forum that
aims to examine latest evidence and guidance,
making recommendations for local implementation.
Current activities include assisting local
Neighbourhood Renewal funded projects that
are tackling perinatal and infant mortality
and overseeing the coordination of confidential
enquiries in the region.
